The Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University opened its doors in 1993 to serve the South Florida community. Our CARD is one of seven state-funded, university-based outreach and support centers in Florida dedicated to optimizing the potential of people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), dual sensory impairment, sensory impairments with other disabling conditions, and related disabilities.
In 2025, the Center for Disease Control announced that an estimated 1 in 31 children (among 8-year-olds) and 1 in 34 children (among 4-year-olds) have autism. Based on these data, we can assume that there may be nearly 130,000 individuals with autism in the tri-county (Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Broward) area. Today, CARD serves families with support services, information, resources, referrals, and care coordination, among other critical community functions. CARD needs your assistance to maintain the impactful work we have been doing for over three decades and to enhance our ability to meet the growing needs of our South Florida autism community.
Your support today can help sustain our programs and services.
